My understanding of communism is minimal I’m sure in comparison to people on this sub, so bear with me, please. I’ve reached a point in my research where I’m questioning whether or not I should even continue to engage this idea because maybe it isn’t even practical.Do you honestly think communism is achievable on a large, even worldwide, scale? Because I really don't think it is, definitely not in our lifetime. I don't mean Leninism or some form of it where there is a vanguard party to lead the working class, but pure communism where everyone chips in for the greater good of society. Where selflessness and altruism become norms and people's selfishness and greed disappear.I found a quote that went along the lines of:"Expecting someone not to be egotistical or self-serving in a capitalist society is like expecting someone in a factory riddled with pollution not to cough"That's not the quote verbatim, just how I remember it, but the idea is the same.I definitely could see greed and selfishness not being inherently human, but instead a byproduct of the rat race that is capitalism and consumerism. However relieving as that would be if true, the reality of our world right now is one overwhelmed against communism and the world and humanity would need a drastic change in consciousness collectively for it to be possible.I even notice myself being overly focused on money and commodities sometimes and I have to take a step back and check my thinking and my behavior.I'm not here to discuss the impurities of capitalism. I'm just simply wondering if you personally think communism is something that can realistically happen and if it can’t, at least not in our lifetime, shouldn’t we focus on something more practical for the here and now? via /r/communism https://ift.tt/3bMdav7
