How to explain to people than Chairman Mao wasn't bad?

Ok, this might be random but I always find myself getting frustrated at people because as soon as I begin to talk about Stalin or Chairman Mao, they always jump to 'How could you defend a mass murderer? How could you defend a dictator? He killed X million people, what's wrong with you' and I never know how to respond. Could you guys let me know how you usually respond to those sorts of negations cuz I get roasted so badly by people. I usually try to talk about how, for example, Chairman Mao bettered the living quality such that life expectancy doubled, or try to list the positives but people always laugh at me and I feel so defeated. via /r/communism https://ift.tt/35g2zY5
