Is China communist? [Question]

I understand that communism's implementation is insanely varried, both as of thus far and models that are so far hypothetical, so i understand that fitting things into nice, neat little categories isn't realistic. That said, im an American, and i understand that our government and media has a tendency to strawman communism, and overall spread asinine information about it (and what it even is). So i ask you all (who definitely know more about this than me), would you consider china communist? If not why so? I ask this because my friends and family seem to have disagreements on whether or not China is Communist, as most Americans have no fucking clue what it is. via /r/communism https://ift.tt/2OB1L72
