Preparing 😷 for Coronavirus 🦠 spread

👩‍🦰I am NOT trying to stoke fear and panic concerning the possible spread of the corona virus to Oregon, but a person in northern California has now tested positive 🎯 for the infection.

I have been advised that people should purchase 👷‍♀️personal protection items NOW, before they are hard to get. As I have heard from multiple health authorities, having effective face masks 😷 on hand is a good idea, especially if you travel or may have health issues already. These are NOT just the type that tie on and are too loose to adequately cover your nose and mouth. Ask your pharmacist for their suggestion.

I have heard💭 from a healthcare employee 🥼that some medical businesses, like dental clinics, are having trouble getting reserves of masks like these already.

It has also been recommended to carry and use the most effective hand🤚 sanitizer products, although PROPER HANDWASHING IS BEST🥇. When you go out, wash your hands well and often💦! Don't wait until get home.

Practice good prevention habits such as, don't shake hands🤝 with people, and don't touch your eyes 👀and nose👃with bare hands out in public, which will also decrease the chances🎰 of contracting other viruses, like influenza, which is already here-- and is a greater risk🤢 than corona virus.

Carry tissues with you👜 in case you have an itch anywhere on your face, AND to cover your sneeze or cough🗣. Remember that people can be contagious🤮 with the corona virus WITHOUT ANY SYMPTOMS, so protect the people around you⛑.

👩‍🏫Educate yourself by getting more, and surely better, information than mine here👨‍🏫.

👩‍⚕️ Get facts from health officials who are NOT being restrained 🙊 from sharing complete and thorough corona virus updates👨‍🔬.

👩‍💻Being accurately informed and prepared is the best way to defeat 🤼‍♀️panic and fear, as well as the only way to fight🦸‍♀️ this new health threat that is likely here to stay.

"The DPRK is a monarchy"

Firstly, I'd like to stress something. As those who find themselves to be well traveled may know, the DPRK is not the US. This may sound obvious, perhaps even insultingly so, but if this idea is not placed in the forefront of discussion around the DPRK, a systematic pattern of orientalism will ingrain itself into the discourse. It should not be supprising that there are many cultural and societal differences that arise from a nation of the DPRK's cultural and ideological character. Criticisms of the DPRK can, and in the spirit of Marxism should be made, but we must ensure that, as socialists, these criticisms do not veil a dagger of white-supremacist undertones beneath righteous outcry. Unfortunately, in addition to hyperbole, I've seen many self-identified leftists fall into this trap (of which I was once one).Two pieces of context before I address this "monarchy" silliness:1.) Kim Il-Sung was President from 1974 until his death in 1994. Legally, this position was the highest authority in the the government. When he died, however, the position was dissolved and three new positions were established. These were, in no particular order: Premier of the Cabinet, President of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, and Chairman of the National Defense Commision (which would itself later be dissolved into the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK in 2016). Remember these for later!2.) Every five years, the DPRK has county, city, and provincial elections to the local people’s assemblies, as well as national ones to the Supreme People’s Assembly. Candidates are selected in mass meetings held under the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland, which also organizes the political parties in the DPRK. If selected in the mass meetings, Citizens can run under these parties, or alternatively, they can run as independents. This way, vyers for office are chosen by the people, not by the party (which, as someone who witnessed the death of the USSR, I would usually find concerning given the extremely precarious geopolitical position the DPRK finds itself in, but it seems they have their shit together, so I welcome the democracy). As a result, the parliament in the DPRK presently consists of three separate parties: the Workers Party of Korea, the Korean Social Democratic Party, and the Chondoist Chongu Party (a religious party). When the actual election comes around, members of a party are given a ballot containing only the name of the candidate nominated for their party in the aforementioned mass-meeting. Independents have a similar process. The elections were designed as a fail-safe against any corruption of the democratic process which may have occured during the mass meetings. If uncorrupted, the results will show overwhelming support. If this is not the case, then the mass meetings failed to reach a consensus with popular support. To recap, as I have heard the fact that electoral ballots only contain one candidate be used disingenuously, the mass meetings are where the democratic process takes place, and the elections are where this process is checked for corruption.Back to the original point about monarchism:Neither Kim Jong-Il nor Kim Jong-Un, the God-Emporer-Patriarchs of our dynasty in question, have held or currently hold the position of Premier. Immediately after Kim Il-Sung, Hong Song-Nam held the position. There have been twelve holders in total, with the current being Kim Jae-Ryong.While I find ranking these positions on a power tier list to be unacademic, I will do so as I find it helpful in debunking this myth.Premier is the "second to top," if you will, of the DPRK's governing body.Likewise, neither Kim Jong-Il nor Kim Jong-Un have held or hold the position of President of the Presidium. Most of the position's existence, it's been held by Kim Yong-Nam. Recently (April 11th 2019), however, Choe Ryong-Hae was elected , likely due to Kim Yon-Nam being 91-years-old now.If the office of primier is considered second to top, President of the Presidium would be the office above it.What Kim Jong-Il and Kim Jon-Un have held is the position of Chairman of the National Defense Commission. This position is important due to the Songun policy of the DPRK, which essentially denotes a special importance to the military and its functions within the DPRK, which is due to, as you may have guessed, imperialist aggression and the threat of destruction that ever looms over the unoccupied sections of the Korean peninsula. So naturally, being materialists, the country has had to prioritise the military. And, tracing back to those components of Korean culture, the holder of such a position would be well-respected. This isn't some "great man" theory; it's just a respectful attitude. This is important to understand. It's not a vulgar, artificial cult of personality. There is a lot of reason to respect the Chairman of the National Defense Commission and those who work with them. After all, they are the one made responsible to manage the instrumental fight against imperialism, a threat needed to be watched daily by not just the government, but the people as well.Neither Kim Jong-Il nor Kim Jong-Un have been the legal heads of state. Both have held very crucial and very influential positions, but also, in a similar fashion, this is due to the social conditions and connections of the DPRK, and what these two figures represent for the DPRK. Neither have been the de facto totalitarian dictator that liberals love to parade.TL;DR: Kim Jong-Un has a lot of influence over the military and its strategic functions, but not so much over matters of state. The Anglo-Saxon Mission and it's possible relation to the coronavirus

I've been a medium-time lurker of this sub. Mainly because I'm tired of the biased "news" that's always shoved in my face, and I just need to read more news with more backing to it. On the subject of the coronavirus. I never believed the source to be in China. By this I mean that the virus was not made by the Chinese government nor was it from some animal that was being consumed by the Chinese population. Without getting into a discussion on whether it's right or wrong be consuming those animals (I don't think it's right but that's just my human sentiment), I find it questionable that the virus didn't appear sooner as it's not only recently these animals are being consumed. Just the other day I heard from friends and family who have heard from news that there was a confirmed case of someone who's exposures cannot be traced back to Wuhan. This is something very unlikely to be proved, but I thought I'd do some research anyways to see if there might be anything. I came across this site. The YouTube video was uploaded in 2010. How do people reconcile materialism with metaphysics/religion?

I know a few comrades who are otherwise very principled materialists, Marxist Leninists. But they also espouse metaphysics, particularly religion (paganism, Satanism, etc).I've always had a bit of an interest in contemporary paganism and Wicca, they seem like one respectable way for me to get in touch with heritage detached from whiteness, and also a way to subvert the hegemony held by white/settler Christianity in the West. Superexploitation of the Periphery and how States in the Core Benefit

Recently I've seen the topic of how imperialism benefits bourgeois states, not just capitalists, mentioned here in the context of arguments about social democracy. Stepping aside on the social democracy discussion, John Smith in his Imperialism in the Twenty-First Century did a great job on this subject in the first chapter (emphasis added):"In The China Price, Tony Norfield recounts the story of a T-shirt made in Bangladesh and sold in Germany for €4.95 by the Swedish retailer Hennes & Mauritz (H&M). H&M pays the Bangladeshi manufacturer €1.35 for each T-shirt, 28 percent of the final sale price, 40¢ of which covers the cost of 400g of cotton raw material imported from the United States; shipping to Hamburg adds another 6¢ per shirt. Thus €0.95 of the final sale price remains in Bangladesh, to be shared between the factory owner, the workers, the suppliers of inputs and services and the Bangladeshi government, expanding Bangladesh’s GDP by this amount. The remaining €3.54 counts toward the GDP of Germany, the country where the T-shirt is consumed, and is broken down as follows: €2.05 provides for the costs and profits of German transporters, wholesalers, retailers, advertisers, etc. (some of which will revert to the state through various taxes); H&M makes 60¢ profit per shirt; the German state captures 79¢ of the sale price through VAT at 19 percent; 16¢ covers sundry “other items.” Thus, in Norfield’s words, “a large chunk of the revenue from the selling price goes to the state in taxes and to a wide range of workers, executives, landlords, and businesses in Germany. The cheap T-shirts, and a wide range of other imported goods, are both affordable for consumers and an important source of income for the state and for all the people in the richer countries.The central point Norfield is making cannot be emphasized enough, because so many liberals and socialists in imperialist countries try very hard to put it out of their minds. H&M makes handsome profits, to be sure, but these are dwarfed by the state’s take, once taxes on wages and profits of H&M and suppliers of services to it are added to its VAT receipts. In 2013, the tariffs charged by the U.S. government on its apparel imports from Bangladesh alone exceeded the total wages received by the workers who made these goods. The state uses this money, as we know, to finance foreign wars, health care, and Social Security, and even returns a few pennies to the poor countries in the form of “foreign aid.” As Tony Norfield argues, low wages in Bangladesh help explain “why the richer countries can have lots of shop assistants, delivery drivers, managers and administrators, accountants, advertising executives, a wide range of welfare payments and much else besides.” His blunt conclusion: “Wage rates in Bangladesh are particularly low, but even the multiples of these seen in other poor countries point to the same conclusion: oppression of workers in the poorer countries is a direct economic benefit for the mass of people in the richer countries.”"This is a concrete example of how the benefits of superexploitation go beyond just capitalists. Obviously the money is not earmarked as "funds generated from extreme exploitation of Bangladeshis; for healthcare" but it is near indefensible for any Marxist to suggest that revenues of governments in the core are not buoyed by superexploitation of the periphery. Whether the benefits for workers in the core make them net exploiters or simply makes principled internationalism significantly more difficult and what we can do about this are among the serious questions this topic raises. via /r/communism https://ift.tt/2T7MxZG

Disney's the lion king: a Marxist perspective

The driving force behind the history of the Lion King is class struggle. If you read between the lines, the lions represent a sort of neoliberal (Democratic party) politics that emphasizes respectability while implicitly endorsing violence. The mode of production in the pride lands is clearly a capitalist analog, with a ruling class of lions that own "everything the light touches" in this case the land, representative of all of the means of production. The hyenas are used to maintain order in the animal kingdom, and while they benefit from the system of exploitation (they too eat meat), their desire to end their particular form of exploitation, without questioning the mode of production, shows that hyenas are fundamentally not revolutionary. Scar's revolution is a classic fascist revolution, which uses the interests of the petty bourgeoisie to capture state power and intensify exploitation in order for them to capture the same wealth as the lion class. Without the power of the hyenas, scar's government would have quickly fallen, and only by taking advantage of the class antagonisms between lions and hyenas is Scar able to seize power. The eventual devastation of the pride lands shows that hyena fascism is the highest form of the carnivorous capitalism. By contrast, Simba flees and encounters two radical leftists, Timon and Pumbaa, who have essentially established a workers paradise where carnivores like simba do not have to eat herbivores, and instead can consume bugs (although this itself could be considered problematic from an ecological perspective, within the confines of the film, bugs are not shown to be sentient.) The means of production, the land, and the fruits of production, the bugs, are collectively owned. There is no exploitation, and there is no state. Up until this point, the movie sends a rather revolutionary message, and I was always frustrated as a child when Simba made the decision to leave. Simba's class interests prevent him from becoming truly revolutionary. He, like Debuisson in Der Auftrag, is unable to fully divorce himself of his class interests. The last act of the film shows how Simba abandons the revolution, leaving the workers paradise to restore the liberal lion order, with its same exploitations and class antagonisms that led to the rise of fascism in the first place.I'm relatively new to Marxism so let me know if I was off base anywhere. Compared to other communist-leaning subreddits, and I don't mean to be rude at all, but this subreddit specifically seems to praise Stalin as if he did literally nothing wrong. I tend to follow the Communist Party of Britain's FAQ about Stalin, which says"The crimes committed during the Stalin period cannot be ignored. Korea "Gini Coefficient"

I found that DPR Korea's "gini coefficient" (which measures equality of distribution with 0 being most equal and 1 equal), to be a highly unequal 0.86. Is this just pure propaganda? I've also seen stuff still saying large amounts of the population if still malnourished. Joining a party (Amerika)

I have been trying to discover as much I can about the various parties in Amerika. I've noticed there is a presence of three parties in this subreddit: PSL, PCUSA, and CPUSA. PSL and PCUSA being the most prominent, although I could be entirely wrong on this.I originally went with CPUSA but decided against this and applied for PSL in which I haven't heard back from in months.My main concerns with these parties are as follows and has left me with little to no idea of which organization to join that is active in organizing, agitation, and gaining the trust of the masses in the deep South (MS):Engagement with the masses; notably oppressed nations (Black and Brown communities, Latinx, Asian, Indigenous)The issue of, from the potentially incorrect analysis resulting from external observations, of a Latino Comrade (myself), that the parties seem to be a bastion of settler leftistm/socialism and Western chauvinism.Intelligentsia running the parties, not the people themselves: ordinary working-class peopleNo party seems to have a solid stance on neocolonialism, reparations, rural areas, the prison system, the constriction of bourgeois culture and its inhibition of a concentrated effort towards revolution in the imperial core, and more as it relates to the unique struggles of colonized peoples.Please note that these concerns may not be correct, they are from a personal view point and I'm fully open to criticism. A question asked in good faith

Hi I am relatively new to leftist/Marxist thought. And quite divided when it comes to change in the “imperial core”, because I do very much agree that in a country like turkey, Bolivia or Thailand electoralism is not going to work. Even if a truly socialist or communist party would win an election, a coup could simply be orchestrated. thus I understand the necessity of having extraparliamentary power (I guess dual power?) in order to prevent such things.But what about a country like Germany, GB or the United States? Is it simply to have a political movement associated with a radical industrial union ( like the iww?)? I feel very lucky to experience my pansexuality

It may sound a bit silly, a bit stereotypical, but I just feel like sharing.

Since I've embraced the fact that someone's sex or gender didn't affect how I could think about them romantically or sexually, I feel like my perception of others has changed quite a bit. Now that I'm that much more "in sync" with my identity, I feel much more free to open up about myself and share my experiences with the people I know will take it well.

This new way of opening up has had a few consequences in how my relationships start and evolve. As I am now more prone to share my feelings and talk about heartfelt, serious, sometimes sad or intimate things, I've noticed that people were then more ready to open up about their own struggles, past experiences, love stories... It feels like taking the conversation to a different level all at once, and in the end everyone walks away more open-minded to each other, more trusting, with a feeling of having been understood.

Sometimes I'm amazed, thinking I would probably never reached a point where I really felt that much like myself had I been straight or tried to reject my identity. Wearing a mask everyday, no matter how big or small whatever it's hiding is, it's just exhausting and all the energy you invest into your facade can't be spent just being there.

I've never had any problems during my coming out or feared displaying my orientation, but the feeling of not being myself openly has followed me around for quite a while before I even knew I wasn't straight myself. The realization engaged a process of self-discovery and my personality just... kinda changed along with it. It sounds cheesy, but being yourself feels really good, and people who feel good with themselves can do more and better.

What I didn't understand before all that was the fact that even if your parents and friends are receptive and accepting, even if your country is very open to different orientations, coming to terms with yourself is a long process, sometimes painful. However, I've also confirmed what so many queer people say when it comes to coming out: even if it's difficult, even of people turn against you, it'll be painful for a while but in the end it'll be worth it.

All in all, I now find myself surrounded by people I adore, with better relationships than I had ever experienced in all kinds of ways and a loving boyfriend with whom I can talk about literally everything and whom I would trust with my life.

TL;DR:

Being pansexual and progressively embracing my personality has helped me build a version of myself truer to me, but also improve all my relationships and make my interactions more significant. It was a journey of self-understanding, and understanding myself now helps me understand others.

There it is, my little story that may inspire a few and maybe help you through a tough time, or maybe even me if I ever need to remember who I am and how I got there. Wish you guys all the best ♥️

In a solid relationship w my (27F) boyfriend (36M); have talked about my pan feelings, been wanting to expirement not sure what to do now?

So I’ve been in a solid and openly communicative relationship w my boyfriend of 5 years and he’s been very accepting of me and that I’m (albeit haven’t had the practice of being) pan. He is open to the prospect of a swinger like situation to see what happens, and I singed us up for a site but it requires $$ to fully interact w people tho he advised me to look for a free one (that I haven’t found as of this post). Lately my dreams where I’m in a relationship w a female has been getting to me and I don’t know what to do... I’ve told him about this and he’s offered an open ear, but as far as advice on what to do with all of this, I’m stumped.... does anyone have any possible advice?

Nuclear weapons: Non-proliferation or anti-imperialism?

Nuclear weapons have the tremendous power to wipe out humanity as well as everything else on this planet. For this reason I am opposed to their use and their existence. Sadly, nuclear weapons do exist and will continue to exist for the foreseeable future. While superficially it would seem Marxists would follow much of the left in being against the proliferation of nuclear weapons, in a world where there is such a difference in the conventional forces of imperialist states and their victims it would seem that nuclear weapons may be the only viable means for a state facing imperialism to protect itself as an ultimate deterrent. This might lead to the conclusion that the proliferation of nuclear weapons may be in the interest of Marxists and the global proletariat, and nuclear weapons should not be the privilege of a small number of (mostly capitalist) states.There is a strong counterargument to this however. A significant portion of bourgeois nuclear scholarship believes nuclear weapons would only be used if a state was on the brink of destruction. this is generally agreeable, since imperialism can be more "precise" by conventional means. This does raise the question however, would a bourgeois state that is being seized by a revolutionary proletariat utilize nuclear weapons to defend itself? We have yet to see a nuclear state undergo proletarian revolution, but should the bourgeoisie grow desperate enough they might deploy nuclear weapons against a revolution that looks like it will succeed.If it were the case that the bourgeoisie might deploy nuclear weapons against a proletarian revolution then we have an obligation to reach total nuclear disarmament prior to this revolution. Since a one sided bourgeois state disarmament seems highly unlikely this would be throwing away the anti-imperialist capability of nukes in a world rife with imperialism. This is also assuming we could even reach total disarmament.How do we resolve this contradiction? Should we work towards total disarmament and hope states like the DPRK can deter imperialism by conventional means? Should we support proliferation in the name of anti-imperialism and hope that revolutions can neutralize bourgeois nuclear threats or worse, survive nuclear attacks? Should we only support proliferation to worker's states? Am I overestimating the depravity of the bourgeois and perhaps they wouldn't use nukes against us?
