Questions regarding ongoing Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict

As evident, there seems to be an ongoing conflict going on between Armenia and Azerbaijan over disputed territories, compounded with preceding ethnic conflicts. Though it seems that there has been some attempts to reduce hostility between the two states within the past few days. And the most important historical element to this is that both of these states were also two republics of the USSR.However, preferably with someone that has knowledge in this area, what is truly going right now? As clearly, the corporate media apparatuses such as the NYT, the Guardian, Washington Post and so on won’t provide a full picture of this.Following on from this, what historical hostilities between these two states have caused it to engender into this conflict? Did the fall of the Soviet Union contribute to the destabilisation of this particular region? As in did it create this geopolitical maelstrom? And what was the relationship between these two states when it was republics in the USSR? Were there conflicts between or did the political bodies of the Soviet Union serve as a barrier to prevent this, an instrument of stability so-to speak? And finally, what is the position an anti-imperialist is to take regarding this? Do we support a side? Are there external imperial powers such as the US or NATO pact participating and attempting to stir, drive or opportunistically attempting to gain this conflict behind close doors? Or do we take the position to call for a cessation of all hostilities? Is there monopoly capital involved in this?Sorry there are quite a lot of questions to answer and a simple reddit post will not be enough to answer it comprehensively and through a nuanced lens, but this is mainly from person who has very little knowledge about this region and it’s history and culture, though as recently with the conflict, it has piqued my curiosity. And even better, if there are resources that supplement this, please feel free to post them! Thank you! via /r/communism https://ift.tt/2EYTrMM
