Was the capitalist conception of Domino Theory backed up by actual Marxist theories and Praxis?

To anyone who's not familiar with domino theory, it was a theory that stated that communism would spread like a domino, China to Vietnam, Vietnam to Laos, etc. And that without containment, communism could spread unchecked until it reached the imperial center of the US and Western Europe.
