Maybe it's a weird question and maybe it's not even possible, I don't know, which is why I'm asking. Let's say the head of a company was somehow convinced that socialism makes sense, and wants to start by modelling their organization to be more socialistic. The obvious response by most would be to dissolve the entire company, but I would counter that in a capitalist environment, they'd be back where they started because people still need jobs to survive and the would have to work for other (quite possibly larger) private companies. The newly minted socialist leader would have no more power than anyone else to push for change because capitalism. So is there any alternative to that?My idea would be to obviously normalize wages within the company, at least to the extent that everyone can lead liveable lives, but also make the company a worker cooperative, basically where workers vote on everything the company does and elects leaders on a cycle, much like a national democracy. The leader would step down pending the election and take whatever position they are elected into.Another alternative would be to simply pay every single employee more than liveable wages, and after that, the leader could take only a small portion of their full salary and give the rest back to the community or a reputable nonprofit organization or charity.I just randomly came up with this as a thought experiment. Does it make sense? What would you suggest? What should the company leader in this scenario do that would align best with socialist ideals? via /r/communism https://ift.tt/3alTdsy
