Bisexual and Pansexual

Hey friends, so I was in a comment thread where the big debate (read: argument) about the difference between bisexual and pansexual, or whether there is a difference. (Basically someone mentioned they were pan, which then sparked a huge disagreement between whether they were the same thing and why identifying as pansexual is pointless)

The LGBTQ+ community is hated on enough. Why can’t we just acknowledge that people identify with the term that feels best to them and then support each other? Neither term is “better” and neither term is transphobic. Bisexuals and pansexuals go through similar struggles, so we should act like siblings and support each other instead of tearing each other down because of something as arbitrary as a word choice.

This argument has been going on for years: someone comes out as bi and then someone accused them of being transphobic, or someone comes out as pan and they get accused of being bi but needing extra attention.

We shouldn’t be getting this from each other. We should be supportive of people and their identities within the LGBTQ+ community, without trying to correct them or judge them because of what label they prefer.

I’m pansexual because that was the term that resonated with me the most. I have a lot of friends that identify as bi, and I don’t think of them as transphobic or anything, I just know that’s the term that they felt comfortable with.

The hate within the community needs to stop and we should be celebrating each other instead.

TLDR: This argument is stupid because there is no correct answer, and we should be supporting each other instead of nitpicking each other’s identities.
