Here's a somewhat quick read on the academic research that the Communist Party of China invested in to find out the reason why the USSR had fallen apart.TL;DR After Stalin, the CPSU ceased to uphold the USSR as a "dictatorship of the proletariat". Khrushchev himself said the concept was no longer necessary in 1961, urging the idea of the "state of the people" instead. DOTP seemingly returned during the Brezhnev era ideologically. However Gorbachev, a child of the Khrushchev era, further abandoned democratic centralism and built the party around the "state of the people" idea, catering to Western ideals of media openness, democratization, etc. This lack of party discipline doomed the USSR ultimately, something that the CPC actively is taking steps to avoid. via /r/communism https://ift.tt/2VwmnBg
