Retaining of democracy in and after war

In researching the Soviet Union, one of the conclusions I came to is that their centralization of state power happened mainly due to the fact that they had to fight many wars. Centralization is very effective in coordinating war efforts, but once power was consolidated in the Soviet Union, the worker councils and other democratic instruments never were returned to their prior power.Since history has shown that invasion by capitalists is to be expected by a socialist country, how can effective defense against invasion be mounted without de-democratizing the state (at least permanently)? via /r/communism https://ift.tt/3chy30g
