I started learning about communism from reading about the anti colonial movement in Africa in the 50-70s. I started reading about ppl like Lumumba, Nyerere, Sankara and others. I didnt even know until then that Mandela was a mL. As I was reading about these revolutionaries I learned about Che, Castro and that caused me to rethink the civil rights movement in the US through a marxist perspective, i realized the BPP was inspired from reading lenin, from which of course they've made their own analysis and contributions to theory. So when I came across several self acclaimed anarchists they were going off on "lenin oppressed people" and I asked, "if mL is so bad why is it the main idealogy that many African revolutionaries refer to when fighting Imperialism?"I kid you not they implied that since "africans weren't very educated so its all they knew" which I thought was casual dismissive racism. So I started looking more into anarchism which besides the bread book I didn't really care much about the ideology, I read some bookchin and goldman but imo it seems like their "self reliance" thing could real easily turn tribal and racist. What do they do if one community is struggling but theirs isn't? The obsession with being decentralized reminds me of a certain CSA. In their quest for immediately wanting a stateless society they refuse to do anything to get there. Because personally or in their community they are well off enough to just close off and then decide to form a workers co op. Meanwhile a marginalized community is left out to dry because there is no state or centralized govt willing to help. Imo that kind of thinking is reactionary akin to "im gonna get mine, piss off."I dont consider myself an expert on communism let alone anarchism but the dismissal of the communist movements in the global south really rubbed me the wrong way. via /r/communism https://ift.tt/2AWQ46Y
