Advice for Dealing With Homophobic Grandfather Over Holidays (17M dating 15 Bigender)

Hey everyone, I promise this is my last post for help, at least until my next crisis. However, my life is just a constant crisis. This is an update to my (17M) last few posts about my family and my relationship with u/skoopa101 (15 Bigender). My parents are coming around but we're coming up to a new problem. My mother often fluctuates on how supportive she is about anything, so she'll be changing her opinion a few times in the next week or so.

My grandparents will likely be visiting over the holidays but I was hoping to spend time with my partner. However, my grandfather is very conservative and homophobic/transphobic, so my mother doesn't want my grandparents to find out. She also doesn't think it's a good idea to tell them, as my grandfather is currently undergoing cancer treatment and she doesn't want to drop the news to him. Any advice on what to do about this? My mom and I are thinking of saying I was going out with a "friend" but Jay and I were hoping to have the other over for dinner.

Thanks again
