How can Unions actually unify the working class in the contemporary capitalism (technology, Uber, apps) and why have they been losing so many affiliates?

Shouldn't the fact that the conditions of labour got worse (wages, health care, sanitary conditions) over the last two decades of plain liberalism on global economy actually instigate the workers to join the struggle?
