Cambodia and the Khmer Rouge: True attempt at socialism or American interventionism gone too far? (Or was Pol Pot a Marxist)

"The Khmer Rouge was a brutal regime that ruled Cambodia, under the leadership of Marxist dictator Pol Pot, from 1975 to 1979. Pol Pot's attempts to create a Cambodian “master race” through social engineering ultimately led to the deaths of more than 2 million people in the Southeast Asian country" is what pops up when you Google Khmer Rouge. But how true is the claim the Pol Pot was a Marxist in any sense of the word, or even left wing? I have heard a couple of things anecdotally about Cambodia under Pol Pot, such as he was CIA backed and kept his seat in the UN after being deposed of leadership by Vietnam.I am just looking for substantial evidence that he was for certain not one of ours, and the genocide he commited was not in the name of socialism. via /r/communism https://ift.tt/2RFAt0r
